2013 Snowflakes & Diamonds Gala Love Civic Center Paris TxFor the past 7 years the Snowflakes & Diamonds Gala has been a godsend to many individuals with special needs. Benefiting the Red River Valley Down Syndrome Society & the REACH program, the 7th annual gala was held at the Love Civic Center on January 12th, 2013. Hundreds of generous people attended the event to help raise much needed funds to keep this amazing organization in operation.

The fun started with hors d’ oeuvres, followed by a delicious dinner from Catering 4 U. As the masses mingled among the silent auction tables, one of Paris’ favorite country bands “Blackland” was on stage kicking out the tunes. Executive Director of the RRVDSS Krissy Crites welcomed and thanked everyone for contributing. Awards were given in appreciation for “Volunteer of the Year” to Phyllis Archembaux, “Volunteer Group of the Year” to the Student Counsel at Frank Stone Middle School, and the “Educator of the Year” was awarded to Sabrina Rosson, Assistant Principal at Aiken Elementary.

Guest speaker and mother of a child with Down syndrome, Deanna Tharpe spoke about the blessings in her life. A beautiful spotlight dance had everyone almost in tears. Brooke Crawford sang “I Hope You Dance” as members of the RRVDSS twirled around the floor.

Following that precious moment, the Live Auction was under way as auctioneer Arvey Johnson and his spotters raked in the cash for the cause.  After the abundance of charity, Blackland with sound man Greg Tucker polished the night off with their recipe of electrified melody.
