4th of July Kicked Off with Annual Parade

(scroll to the bottom to see the pictures)

This year’s  4th of July parade was quite larger than in recent years past. Many businesses and organizations participated, showing their spirit of our country’s birth. From the very oldest (such as a ’57 Chevy Bel Air, ’64 Chevy Pickup, Chevy Nomad, Ford T-Bucket, and late-60s Firebird) to the very newest (such as a 2012 SS Camero, 2011 Jeep, 2012 Dodge Charger, 2011 Chrysler 300, Nissan 350Z, and 2011 Camero ) vehicles, we saw it all. We even got to witness a marriage proposal!  The red convertible donned a sign that read “Kasandra, Will You Marry Me?” As the hopeful prospective rode by, you could get the feeling that he was nervous, as were we for him! As the parade rounded the corner of Clarksville, you could hear the crowd cheering as Kasandra said “yes,” and finished the parade with her new fiancée. A lady then went back through the crowd letting the beginning of the parade viewers know that Kasandra had said yes.

Organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Lamar County Roll Call for Vietnam, the Red River Valley Memorial, Iglesia Nueva Vida, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, First United Methodist Church, the Trolley de Paris, Miss Teen Paris, Mt. Zion, Crime Stoppers, the Paris Police and Fire Department, and so many more showed their support. Businesses such as Lone Star Collision Center, First Federal, Dodge, K95.5, Paris Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Choctaw Casino, Pattonville Storage, Sirloin Stockade, and CiCi’s, among others also joined the parade.

Military vehicles, flashy cars, tractors, kids, adults, and candy-throwers all joined in the fun this year, all the while with the Paris Band and the North Lamar Band joining in patriotic music throughout. Horses brought up the rear of the parade with the street sweepers following closely behind. With all the participation, I would say this was one of the best 4th of July parades Paris has had in a long time.
