CASA for Kids in Lamar County has been a godsend for many children and families. They advocate for the best interests of children who have been abused & neglected and are under the protection of the court. The funds to make this possible sometimes just aren’t enough. On Saturday October 13, 2012 many supporters of Casa for Kids gathered at the Love Civic Center to take part in a “5k Super Hero run/walk”. The $15 signup fee went to this much needed cause. Among the excitement, there were costume contests, prizes for fastest runners, and walkers. Sharon Eubanks organized the event and was proud of the turnout. The Cub Scouts from Pack 12 kicked off the run with the honoring of the colors and the Pledge of Allegiance. The participants navigated a portion of Trail De Paris and one at a time crossed the finish line. After the trail walk/run, a super hero costume contest was held and medals were given for the best dressed.

“CASA For Kids, Inc.’s mission is to advocate for the best interest of the neglected / abused children appointed to us through the Juvenile Courts in Sullivan and Hawkins Counties. We will accomplish this by recruiting, training, and supervising dedicated community volunteers. These volunteers will be able to research and to relay accurate information to the court and monitor the child’s situation. This will help the court to facilitate placement of these children in safe, healthy, permanent homes in an expedient manner.”
Without this amazing organization, many children would be subjected to daily abuse and neglect. We had a wonderful time at the Super Hero 5K Run/Walk and are excited about next year!
