Classic Cars and Square Dancing Bring Evening of Nostalgia to Paris
What a beautiful display of nostalgia. Paris, Texas was blooming with reminiscence of the past as the Northeast Texas Travelers 27th Annual Rod Run and the Chaparral’s 19th Annual Evening in Paris brought people in for a night of magic. Car owners gathered on the plaza to display their magnificent machines and show Paris how chrome, paint, and muscle can take you to a different world. Founder, Bobby Slagle, initiated a gathering of beautiful machines. The cars seemed to cool the sultry southern heat and had passersby glancing to pick out their favorite four-wheeled fantasy. After the Rod Run we journeyed to the Love Civic Center to experience, once again, the flamboyance of Square Dancing and the fanatic following it still has until this day. Chaparral welcomed everyone to the 19th Annual Evening in Paris. The Love Civic Center was packed with dancers and callers fired up for the weekend’s lineup of entertainment. Three halls were set up for dancers from beginner to expert and the IPT crew was present for the launch of the event. Beautiful gowns and dresses twirled around by the hands of sharp dressed partners and the musical callers had the crowd zipping into frenzy. Owning the microphone this year was Gary Showmake, Patti Wheelington, Mike Bramlett, Ken Bower, and Marshall Flippo just to name a few. Stan & Melba Jeffus did an amazing job this year as hundreds flocked to the floor. We are proud to live in a community that keeps the history of musical dance precious.
