2012-2013 Crape Myrtle Queen Coronation at Bywaters Park
Mrs. Clyde H. Daniels (Patsy) was appointed Chairman of the Crape Myrtle Committee in 1995, but it all began in 1966 when Mrs. Walter Bassano (Georgia B.) organized the Crape Myrtle for Paris Committee. 10 years later in 1976, Mrs. A.M. Aikin initiated the selection of a Crape Myrtle Queen and Court. This honor is more than just a title. The Queen participates in many of the community’s activities including the annual Chamber Banquet and presentation of the silver trophy for community beautification. The Queen is also involved in Celebrate America, the Christmas parades, Arbor Day, and other events.
Last year’s Crape Myrtle Queen was Allison Ensey. She has had an elegant and graceful term, and now it was time to pass the crown along. All eyes were on Tiera Easter as she accepted the crown along with the responsibility it comes with. She seems to be a delicate flower and will make a perfect Queen for 2012-2013. We asked her… What is your favorite part about the Coronation? She replied.. “This is my second coronation. Last year I was a princess in the court. My favorite part about the garden club is our Easter Egg Hunt. I love seeing everyone involved and the look on the kids faces.”
The Paris Municipal Band finished the season of music on the Peristyle with melodic power. As the sun set into the western sky the glorious symphonic sounds were spellbinding. Numbers like “Beguine Festival”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, and “Brigade” filled the air. The Coronation was presented beautifully and with so much rich history, the Crape Myrtle lives on inside the heart of every true Parisian.
“To Mrs. Daniel, Georgie Weddle, President of the Council, and all of the women who have worked so hard to organize and present this Coronation, we thank you.”
“Special Thanks to Tom Nugent and the Paris Municipal Band for Sharing the evening with us.”
We at InParisTexas.com would like to applaud Patsy Daniels for her 17 years of outstanding service as Chairman.
