2012 was an amazing year for local music. All of our venues have introduced some of the best entertainment around. With so many options for coverage we decided to spend the New Year at the Depot. Sticking close to home was a good idea as Dylan’s Drivers was working overtime to assure everyone got home safely, but there are the few irresponsible drivers that think “it will never happen to me”. Rather than bounce around from party to party we posted up for a night of electrifying rock!
Kicking off the night of madness was a 4 member metal ensemble going by “Trust Not”. Hailing from Tyler, Texas these guys have been melting faces all over the south. The deep and dark lyrics inside their originals like “Judgment” and “Containment” perfectly describe the band’s music as a whole. Trust Not is steadily gaining fans as they bring their brutal originality to every stage.
Next up was the good time rock band “Hard Times”. When it comes to southern infused rock, these guys are on fire. With Brock Baker on Drums, Jeff Jones strumming a six-string, John Blalock on the low end, Don Copeland on rhythm & lead, Jacob Copeland shredding lead, and front man Gino Cannon on vocals, Hard Times has a rich full sound. The boys blasted out tunes like “Voodoo Child” and “Change in My Pocket”. When it comes to original material, Hard Times has many rabbits in their hat. Songs including “Cool Lake Road” & “Rail Road Tracks” are rocked out and powerful.
The headlining band has grown to be the most popular rock band in Paris, Texas. Their ability to draw you into their guitar driven metal is magical. Chad Lindsey gave the New Year countdown and the guys fired up the amps. Promoting their latest 3 song EP, Fallen has put themselves on the musical map. Among the smoking set of songs were “B**ch”, “Eyes of Medusa”, and “Whisper”. Influenced by many of the greats, Fallen introduced a handful of favorites as well. Their rendition of “Cumbersome” by Seven Mary Three sparked up rock & roll nostalgia.
We were blown away by all three bands as we celebrated the end of an amazing year and the beginning of good times to come.
