Interview with Dancing with the Stars Local Participants

We wanted to find out more about the Dancing with the Stars local dancers and so we contacted them with a few questions. Enjoy!

Here is what Flynn Tiffany had to say.

Is this your first year taking part in Dancing With the Stars?

“Yes it is the first time I have participated in Dancing with the Stars, but I did attend it in 2010 and 2011 and very much enjoyed the show, which was one reason I was willing to participate in the event when they asked.”

How many routines did you have to learn for it?

“We chose to dance the Fox Trot, Cha-Cha, and the Jive – everyone is required to learn 3 routines.”

What has been the hardest routine and how helpful has your dancing partner been?

“Unfortunately we have not learned all 3 routines yet, but we are getting closer every day. It is hard to say which is the hardest, but I am going to guess that it will either be the Cha-Cha or the Jive based on what we have done so far. Regarding how helpful my dancing partner is, you could not ask for anyone nicer or more knowledgeable than Crystal Taylor to help you learn how to dance. Crystal has been very patient with all the questions I am constantly asking, and she has done a great job so far trying to make the dance routines challenging enough to keep me intrigued while also making sure we stay on schedule so we are ready by show time.”

Why did you agree to take part in Dancing With the Stars?

“I think the main reason I agreed to participate was because of the cause that they were putting the money toward, and I must admit that the constant pestering of a couple people on Leadership Lamar might have had some influence as well – LOL. All kidding aside, please don’t take my comment wrong because I believe past years have also had some great causes, but after spending some time over at the Boys and Girls Club, taking a tour of the facility, and hearing about the after school benefits that this organization provides to the children and parents of our community – it was very hard to say no.”

If there is any additional information that you would like to add, please feel free!

“I would like to comment to anyone who might be asked to participate in future events – I was very tempted not to volunteer due to the time commitment, and just being generally nervous about learning to dance and then having to perform in front of a packed Civic Center. I have had a great time so far, all the other dancers and members of Leadership Lamar have been great to work with and get to know better, and I am so glad I volunteered to help. I might have a different outlook on this on June 16th when I am forgetting all my dance steps, but for the time being I want thank everyone who voted me in to the final six dancers, thank my wife for letting me spend so much time getting ready for this, and I just hope that everyone enjoys the show.”

Next up is Renee Harvey of Century 21 Harvey Properties!

Is this your first year taking part in Dancing With the Stars?

This my first year dancing with DWTS, but I have attended every year. I have so much more appreciation of those before us that dedicated so much of themselves for this great cause!”

How many routines did you have to learn for it?

“We learned three dances, a smooth, latin and swing dance.”

What has been the hardest routine and how helpful has your dancing partner been?

“The hardest for me has been Viennese waltz by far! All of them have had varying degrees of difficulty since there are technically correct steps for each dance. Not at all like “social” dancing. My partner has been so helpful and is an incredible professional. He has also been very demanding, expecting the best of even a limited talent! I have really had to learn new terminology of the dance world.”

Why did you agree to take part in Dancing With the Stars?

“I am thrilled to be able to participate for my community and this worthy cause. Our children are worth every bump, bruise, and blister!”

If there is any additional information that you would like to add, please feel free!

“How proud we will be with the new renovations for the Boys and Girls for years to come. I am honored to be a small part!

The men and women of Century 21 Harvey Properties sponsored me for this event. I am very blessed to work with these wonderfully talented and generous individuals. They are always supportive and extraordinarily giving to our community.”

Local participant Kristina Courson had a few things to say about Dancing with the Stars!

3

What has been the hardest routine and how helpful has your dancing partner been?

The Rumba, but Israel has been very helpful and patient with me.

Why did you agree to take part in Dancing With the Stars?

I was excited to be able to help with a project that benefits the remodel of the Boys and Girls Club. It is much needed and I can’t wait to help with the remodeling myself this August. PLUS it’s been fun learning ballroom with such a great group of community leaders.

Matt Coyle also wanted to share about his experience with Dancing with the Stars.

Is this your first year taking part in Dancing With the Stars?

“I’m part owner of Buffalo Joe’s Pub, and we have catered the event with drinks for the last few years. I was also included in the Leadership Lamar Class that arranged the event last year. And now, it’s my turn to dance, and hopefully not fall down.”

How many routines did you have to learn for it?

“I “learned” 3 dances for the event.”

What has been the hardest routine and how helpful has your dancing partner been?

“Heather has been a great instructor! She is VERY forgiving. Every routine has been challenging, but I think the swing was the most difficult.”

Why did you agree to take part in Dancing With the Stars?

“It’s for a great cause, and I can’t imagine another time I would be asked to dance in such an event.”
