Mayor Hashmi & City Council Approve Request to Name November as “Hospice Month”
City Council gathered at City Hall met at 5:30pm on October 28th, 2013 with a full agenda including a presentation from Toys for Tots, a request from Maxey Rifleman Club, a presentation by PEDC, and more. The first item was a request by local hospice providers “Heart to Heart Hospice” to name the month of November “Hospice Month” in Paris. Mayor Hashmi read the proclamation “Whereas: Every year more than 1.58 million Americans living with life-limmiting illnesses recieve care from the nation’s in communities throughout the United Statesand Whereas: Hospice & Pallative care offer the highest quality of care to patients families and bring comfort love & respect to all that they serve. Whereas: Hospice allows people to spend their final months surrounded by family & loved ones at home wherever home may be. Whereas: Hospice & Palliative Care professionals including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers, Therapists, Health Aids, and Clergy provide comprehensive & compassionate care that make the wishes of each patient and family member a priority. Whereas: More than 468, 000 trained volunteers contribute 21 million hours of service to hospice programs annually. Through pain management & symptom control, caregiver training, and emotional & spiritual support, patients are able to live as fully as possible through the journey of life’s end and.. Whereas: The commitment of more that 1,600 hospice providers, NHPCO and the Dept of Veterans Affairs have allowed the innovative program, We Honor Veterans , to thrive and insure that Veterans find the compassion, care and dignity that they deserve at the end of their life. Whereas: The provision of the quality Hospice & Palliative care reaffirms our belief in the essential dignity of every person regardless of their age, health,or social status in that ever stage of human life deserves to be treated with utmost respect and care. Therefore I A.J. Hashmi, Mayor of the City of Paris, Texas hereby proclaim the month of November 2013 as: National Hospice & Palliative Care Month and encourage all people to learn about options of care and to share their wishes with family, loved ones and their healthcare professionals. Whereof: I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Paris to be affixed at the City of Paris this the 28th day of October, 2013.
With a flash of the camera and and handshake Carla Garner accepted the proclamation. The council recognized the entire staff of Heart to Heart Hospice as we all applauded their endeavor in bringing about importance of Palliative care and quality of our loved ones last last days on Earth.
