Paris Blues Society “Blues On the Red” Meeting
On Monday July 23rd 2012, The Paris Blues Society met to discuss the details on the upcoming “Blues on the Red” festival. Slated for October 6, 2012, Blues on the Red is going to bring many music lovers to the Red River Valley Fair Grounds. Among the many talented acts performing throughout the day are The Billion Dollar Blues Band, Gary Porterfield, Rosevelt Twitty, The Blues Drivers, and The Triptones all building up to the headlining act featuring Smokin’ Joe Kubek!
Among the topics discussed at the meeting, there was one in particular that caught my ear. Everyone that attends the festival will receive a Paris Blues Society Membership. That’s right! For only $20 you can check out some of the hottest blues acts in our area as well as the featured performance by Smokin’ Joe as well as become a member of the ultimate local music supporting organization in Texas. The Paris Blues Society is like a family in music. Coming together for community is what it’s all about.
Their programs include:
BITS (Blues in the Schools), where they go to area schools and teach Blues History.
Nursing Home Blues, where they play for residents of Lamar County Nursing Homes.
Scholarship Program, where they give a scholarship to each of the five area schools in Lamar County.
Christmas Basket Program, where they give baskets of non-perishable food items and toiletries to the elderly and homebound in Lamar County.
The Paris Blues Society also participates in Relay for Life every year.
