Paris Junior College Releases Fall Fine Arts Line-Up
FROM MARGARET RUFF:
A vibrant season of art, drama and music awaits area residents at Paris Junior College this fall. Cultural opportunities fill the calendar, ranging from a gallery showing, to a concert from the all-women’s group Bella Cantati, to the musical Les Misérables, and a student art exhibit and student recital.
An opening reception starts things off from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Foyer Gallery on October 15. Artist John Simmons will display his ceramic pieces as well as paintings. The artist will be on hand to discuss his work and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The showing runs through Nov. 5.
PJC’s newest ensemble, Bella Cantati or “beautiful singers,” will share their talents at a concert on Tuesday, October 29th at 7:30 p.m. in the DeShong Chapel. The program will represent women’s choral literature from composers Lloyd Pfautsch, Randall Thompson, and Mary Ann Lightfoot, among others. The public is invited to attend this free concert.
“This wonderful group of women is also available to share the joy of choral singing at civic, social or business clubs and events,” said PJC Director of Choirs Philip Briggs. Call 903-782-0343 for more information about the group.
Drama and music students taking the music theater concentration have an opportunity to shine in Les Misérables. The joint production of PJC’s departments of music and drama will be held from Nov. 14 through 17 in the Ray Karrer Theater at 7:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $10 or free with PJC ID.
