Paris Vineyards Annual Harvest 2011
Out at Paris Vineyards today, the Annual Harvest of 2011 took place. The public was invited to come out and help pick grapes off the vine. They were advised to wear sunscreen, glasses, and be ready with their pruning tools. The owners Denise and Larry Dority gave us a tour of the area, complete with stemming machines, and the tank the grape juice goes into. Some of the wine from the Paris Vineyards is sold downtown at the Paris Winery on the Square. Today, the grapes that were picked were going to be used to make Blanc Du Bois, a white wine. The Doritys only get to harvest the grapes for wine one time during the year. Normally, they wait until the first weekend of August, but it turns out that this weekend was better, with the drier hotter weather. Denise explained that the drier the weather, the better the crop. From what we were able to see, it looked like this year would be a good year for wine.
If you are interested in tasting their “ware”, come out to the Winery on the Square. There are many different varieties of wine to try. To learn more about Paris Vineyards, visit http://parisvineyards.com
