Reading is the most important part of literacy in the world. If you can read, you can do anything. On Thursday October, 4th 2012, local attorney Sydney Young sat with many enthusiastic readers at the Paris Public Library to give her review on Toni Morrison’s “Home”.
Mrs. Young said “As a reader it is very difficult to pick just one book to review but I knew that when I got to the 20th page of this book that this was the one that I wanted to discuss. The latest release from Toni Morrison reveals an apparently defeated man finding his manhood and, finally, his home.”
Along with the review, the group discussed the topic of children’s literacy and the importance of children’s interest in reading. Aside from being a local business owner as well as an attorney, Sydney is involved in the Lamar County Coalition of Education. She also supports “Reading to the Future”, a program in which 2nd graders are read to in hopes that they will want to read more. She gives speeches on the importance of adult readers in our society. Sydney is hoping for a quarterly book review and we can’t wait to see which book she picks next time!
The Paris Public Library has the tools you need whether you are looking for a good book, need information, internet access, or just a pleasant atmosphere to relax and read the newspaper. For more information visit the site..
